Art For Activism

  • Duration 1 hour
  • Group size 2-6 Kids
  • Ages12+

Play-Date Description

With everything going on in the world, it is hard to know what we can do to help, especially for young people.

In this play-date, students will have the opportunity to explore a social justice cause that is important to them and develop a piece of art in whatever performance medium they choose (songwriting, dance piece, playwriting, etc.).

Each week they will receive feedback from other students to help them develop their project and concrete goals to accomplish by the next class.

This is an opportunity to engage in meaningful, productive conversations with their peers and come out of the class with a piece that they can continue to develop and share, using their voice for social change.

This play-date is designed for kids ages 13 and up.

Meet the Artist

Kayla King

My name is Kayla King and I am so excited to be a part of the Tiny Broadway team!

I am an actress from Tucson, Arizona and this past year I graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in Musical Theatre. I currently live in New York City, pursuing a career in the performing arts. The past few years, I have worked in educational theatre at La Jolla Playhouse, The Seattle Children’s Theatre, and Syracuse Stage.

While theatre is a place to have fun and escape the outside world, I feel it is important, now more than ever, to use our art for social change. Theatre is a powerful tool to tell stories of people who are underrepresented and who deserve a voice. You are never too young to learn how to harness your voice to share what you are passionate about.

Outside of theatre, I am a digital artist and illustrator, active yogi, and proud plant mom.

I can’t wait to see you in a play-date!
