Musicals from the Pages of History

  • Duration 1 hour
  • Group size 2-6 Kids
  • Ages8+

Class Description

Ever watched a show based on a true story and thought, what was it REALLY like?

Here, we’ll have exciting discussions analyzing students’ favorite musicals based on true stories, like Hamilton, The Greatest Showman, Les Miserables, Six, The Sound of Music, 1776, and more, as well as how a musical is written, produced, and comes together as a whole staged performance run!

Over the course of four play-dates, each student will take a favorite story from history and dramatize it into a scene that leads to a musical number (no musical composition required.) Think Lin Manuel Miranda’s elevator pitch performance for Hamilton at the White House before he finished the show..

Students will gain a depth of understanding and empathy of real-life historical events, the making of musical theatre and the industry, and playwriting, all while having tons of fun discovering art both written by professionals and new art created themselves.
